Jesus said, “Let the children come to me; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Mark 10:14).
At First Presbyterian Church, we believe it essential to empower families to grow deep roots in the faith together and with their church family. Our children’s ministry focuses on bringing the stories of our faith to life through Bible study, mission opportunities and inter-generational experiences.
Children begin their care at First Presbyterian Church in our nursery, staffed with qualified, trained attendants in a safe environment. As they grow, they progress through age-appropriate classes and groups.
By fourth grade, generally, students enter catechism class, where they learn the Children’s Catechism over the course of spring semester. The Children’s Catechism is a summary introduction to the doctrine and sacraments of the Church.
Our children are invited to be a part of our children’s choir and to assist in worship. Our children rehearse on a regular basis and participate in worship 2-3 times each semester.

5K – 2nd Grade & 3rd – 5th GradeEducation Building Sunday mornings our children are growing through caring, knowledgeably and trained teachers. We use the Growing in Grace and Gratitude curriculum. At the heart of Growing in Grace & Gratitude is the foundation of Presbyterian identity where God’s grace and our gratitude are the heartbeat of our faith, life, and worship; extends an invitation to discipleship that inspires children to learn and practice hospitality, generosity, and love; and reaches beyond Sunday morning, encouraging children to live their lives as an expression of God’s grace.
Each class session is rooted in Bible stories that reveal God’s grace. Through fun activities, prayer, and singing, children will gather in God’s grace and learn to respond joyfully in gratitude.
